Boy Scouts at Augusta Evans
3/23/2012

Mrs. Lerner and Mrs. McGee are teaching the students in the Service Leadership Class at St. Paul’s Episcopal School how to become community leaders of the future. This class has influenced me and the community in numerous ways. We participate in several regular service activities such as weekly tutoring at Prichard Preparatory School and Little Tree Learning Center where we do activities such as making pine cone turkeys to celebrate Thanksgiving and much more. Out of all these service activities, serving as Patrol Leaders for the Boy Scouts program at Augusta Evans, a school for mentally and physically challenged children, has had the biggest impact on me. Working with these students on different projects and going to different places, like the fire station, has allowed me to learn more about and grow close to each of my patrol members. Over time I developed a relationship to all of my members each unique and special in it’s on way. My partner, Emily Kate, and I learned how to use and improve their strengths and how to avoid or work on their weaknesses. Each time we go to Boy Scouts it’s a new adventure and I enjoy seeing the process not only the Scouts make, but also we the patrol leaders. Our goal might be to help them and to make a difference, but they help us just as much and give us a new perspective on life.
